Trinity Community Care Clg, at the request of the HSE are responsible for the Meals on Wheels Service in Drumcondra, Iona (Glasnevin) and Marino.
This service was set up to assist vulnerable people in the community who were experiencing difficulty preparing and cooking a main meal for themselves. Depending on the needs, service users can avail of the service Monday to Friday. Some service users may require fewer days. The service is particularly helpful to older people living alone or people with a disability.
The Service is based in Ballymun and the area’s covered are Drumdondra, Iona (Glasnevin) and Marino.
The meals are prepared and cooked by a professional chef in the Marewood Food Kitchen in Ballymun. Particular attention is paid to service users with special dietary requirements. This information is passed onto the kitchen staff by the Co-Ordinator of the Meals on Wheels Service.
The meal consists of two courses, dinner and dessert. Meals are collected from the kitchen each morning, the Co-Ordinator of the Service oversees this process. The meals are then delivered to the service user by volunteer drivers. All volunteers are Garda Vetted and supervised by the Meals on Wheels Co-Ordinator.
Referrals to the service are accepted from:
- Public Health Nurse
- Hospital Staff
- Home Help Service
Any other requests are referred back to the Public Health Nurse in the community.
